BATTLES
Anyone can take part in battles and contests. Querencia sticks to the rules of max of six pokemon per team. For character classes that encourages an abundance of pokemon, they are required to mark their pokemon as battle-ready. typically with a scarf, bandanna or some other novelty clothing item.
As courtesy please list pokemon in the team at the start of the battle.
Terminology notes:
Match/Match Up- the large event, team vs team
Battle - pokemon vs pokemon
As roleplayers you may pick which type of battles you want to do. dice heavy vs roleplay heavy. You may not switch in the middle of the battle/thread once it has been decided.
roleplay heavy
winner is determined by dice roll. higher roll wins. members can roleplay the battle in detail. Typically one two attacks per dodge. This method is to encourage creative writing and more for members who like the dramatics of a good battle.
When a battle is to start and members have chosen their first pokemon. The winner for the match is predetermined. Each player rolls for their pokemon a d6 (discord as a bot for that). Higher roll wins, if there is a type advantage that pokemon gets plus one. Example below.
Charmander vs Bulbasaur match.
charmander rolls 4+2 = 6
bulbasuar rolls 3
In the event a pokemon has a dual type, they receive the + 2 still. Dual Type pokemon can roll a d12 Example:
Sawsbuck vs Salazzle
Salazzle 4 +2 +2 = 8
Sawsbuck 6
This methods does allow for the rare underdog that has the type disadvantage that wins the match. makes for great roleplay!
Dice Heavy
How the battle goes.

Charmander HP 20 Attack Power 5 pts
Bulbasaur HP 20 Attack Power 5 pts
ROUD 1: Player one goes first, Bulbasuar goes in for a vine whip, 5+2 = 7pts (+2 for same type attack) damage, roleplay post is left open ended.
Player two rolls for dodge d6, is 4! even dodge is successful! Charmander dodges the attack the fires back with ember. 5+2 = 7pts damage, roleplay post open ended.
ROUND TWO: Bulbasaur attempts dodge d6, 3, oh no it didn't work! They are hit with ember, it is super effective. +2 to 7 for total of 9. They are now 11/20. They use growl! Player d6, 5! Charmander's next attack is -5.
Charmader could not dodge the growl he uses scratch, but is too scared to get close, attack fails.

It's importnat you keep track of their HP each round.

catching pokemon
catching a pokemon is similar to the battle system. when a trainer throws a ball the rate of catching is based on the wild pokemon's hp.
if the trainer throws a ball at a pokemon with 4hp. the wild pokemon rolls d4 . trainer rolls d6, always. the capture is successful if the trainer rolls higher then the pokemon. the capture fails if the wild pokemon's roll wins. the wild pokemon has a chance of escape after a failed capture, roll again even = successful escape, odd = failed escape and the battle continues.
if the wild pokemon is knocked out, the trainer has a final chance to attempt capture, the same system as before but the wild pokemon rolls d6 note: it is encouraged in roleplay that a pokemon who is caught via the knockout method starts off disliking their new trainer.
